Engineer for a Day March 23, 2007 Friday March 23rd marked the 24th Annual Engineer for a Day! YMF invited local high school students with an interest in engineering to participate in the event. This year was a very successful event with almost 70 students attending!
Students gathered in the morning session to hear from a great line-up of guest speakers and compete in a mystery design competition. This year's design competition was "Catapulting Your Way to Success". The students were divided into teams of 6 and worked together to design and build a catapult that would project an object the furthest distance possible, while being the most cost-effective as well.
All students who participated submitted essays about why they were interested in engineering. Scholarships were awarded to the top three essays submitted upon registration, in the amounts of $300, $200 and $100. For the afternoon session, students went to local engineering firms to see first hand what engineers do on a daily basis. We had a large turnout of company participation this year.
YMF would like to thank the members, volunteers and hosting companies who made this year's event a success.
