ASCE Younger Member Newsletter - January 2009
Dear Younger Members and Student Members:
We are happy to announce the publication of Issue #65 of the Younger Member Newsletter. The Committee on Younger Members (CYM) publishes this newsletter three times per year in an effort to keep Younger Members apprised of successful events, upcoming activities, award deadlines, and contact information. We also include Student Members on our distribution list as our way of illustrating the potential resources Younger Members provide to students and encouraging their involvement in Younger Member activities, both now and after graduation. One of the primary functions of CYM is to ease the transition of Student Members into the mainstream of ASCE.
Most of you should be able to access the Younger Member Newsletter by using Adobe Acrobat Reader* with the click of your mouse at http://www.asce.org/inside/files/pdf/issue65.pdf. However, if you should experience any problems, please feel free to contact Nancy Berson at nberson@asce.org. *To download a free copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader, please click http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html.

The meetings were informal and were designed to help students gain confidence for the upcoming UCF networking day, prepare for job interviews and seek career guidance. Rock Climbing @ Aiguille Rock Climbing Center October 9 A few YMF members met at the Aiguille Rock Climbing Center on October 9th. After a brief session on safety and belaying techniques, they moved on to implementing what they had learned. Some members attempted the difficult walls, while others climbed the easier walls. Although the turnout was low because of the rainstorm, the participants realized that rock-climbing is not only challenging and a test of your fitness, but also a lot of fun and good exercise!

Beach Cleanup
Sunday, September 14, 2008 Seven YMF members and friends collected trach at Alan Shepard Park in Cocoa Beach on Sunday, September 14. We gathered about 4 bags of trash, and one of us even garnered some treasures - Lindy Wolfe's nephew found a partially buried boodie board under the deck and a weathered cell phone! Afterwards, we had lunch, laid in the sun, and swam to cool ourselves down.
