Spring Bowling League

Beginning Monday March 8th

Back by popular demand, YMF will again be forming a bowling league.  The league will begin March 8th, a Monday.  The duration is 6 weeks, all Mondays at 6:00 PM.  The location is Colonial Lanes off of Primrose in Orlando.  There will be ten teams of four players.  The cost is $10 per person and an additional $3 if you need to rent shoes.  Each night the teams of four will bowl 3 games.  Teams should consider having alternates on their roster to ensure they have a team of four for each night.  This helps the teams the teams be more competitive, and it also helps ensure that Colonial Lanes will want to have us again in the future.  The winning team will be the team with the highest cumulative score at the end of 6 weeks.  The first ten teams to register will be the only teams to compete.  The teams' players do not have to belong to the same company.  Please contact Josh Davis at jdavis@drmp.com if interested.

March Social Event – Camping

Tentatively Friday March 19th through Sunday March 21st

Join us for a weekend of camping in March.  Keep an eye out for more details.  Contact Angel Martin at amartin@geosyntec.com for more information.

March Service Event- Watershed Action Volunteers Lake Restoration

Saturday March 27th

Get ready to get wet and muddy as we work alongside Seminole County biologists restoring Springwood Lake by removing invasive plants and replanting with native species.  This event promises to be a ton of fun!  If you are interested in helping out or would like more information, please contact Trillian Baldassari (tbaldassari@ardaman.com).

April Service Event – Pathways to Care

Saturday April 10th

Mark your calendar for the annual YMF service event.  Pathways to Care is a 40-bed, not-for-profit respite center dedicated to providing health, housing, and hope to Central Florida's homeless. ASCE YMF is working with Hands on Orlando to improve their facility. With your help, we plan to remove an old fence, build and paint a new wooden fence around a dumpster, build and install a mailbox, and plant a small garden, including mulch and decorative rocks.  Come lend a hand!  Please contact Trillian Baldassari at tbaldassari@ardaman.com if you are interested in helping out.

Engineer for a Day

April 16, 2010

On April 16th, YMF and Florida Water and Environment Association (FWEA) will be jointly hosting the annual Engineer for a Day Event. This event is designed to educate interested high school junior and senior students on the civil engineering profession.  The students generally start off the day at the FDOT office in Orlando. The students attend several guest speaker sessions given by engineering students, faculty and practicing engineers. The morning session is concluded with a mystery design competition and the scholarship winner for the essay contest is announced.   In the afternoon the students break out into smaller groups and job shadow an engineer for a portion of his/her day. If you would like to help out by participating in the organizing committee or would like your firm to host a group of students, please contact Richard Villasenor at rvillasenor@millerlegg.com.

Message from YMF President, Michelle Everett

Welcome to the East Central Branch Younger Member’s Forum’s award winning website.  2008 was a successful year for our members and our group.  The ASCE Florida Section 2008 Young Engineer of the Year award went to one of our former officer’s Brandon Bobo.  Our group won the 2008 ERYMC Community Service Project for our annual Engineer for a Day project and the 2008 ERYMC Outstanding Engineer in Community Service was Cathy Politkya, this year’s President-Elect.  Our group also won the regional Public Service Award for the third year in a row.  Finally on the national level, the ECB YMF website won the website award from the Committee on Younger Members.

YMF is great way to get involved in the local engineering community.   We offer a variety of ways to become active.  Each month there will be a service and a social activity for members to participate in.  Also YMF fields teams in soccer, flag football, softball and beach volleyball throughout the year.  During the upcoming year, our fourth annual technical seminar and our annual Engineer for a Day will take place and volunteers will be needed.  If you’re interested in joining a sport or a planning committee please let me know.

YMF offers something to interest everyone.  We hope to see you at one of our upcoming events.  Please come back and visit the website, which will be regularly updated with upcoming events.

Thanks for visiting and we hope to see you soon!

Michelle Everett
